Omeza recognizes the Hurricane Dorian relief effort created by Dr. Desmond Bell, founder of the Save A Leg, Save a Life Foundation (SALSAL). During his recent week-long visit to Nassau, Bahamas, he was able to distribute over 100 pairs of men’s and women’s diabetic shoes. Donors to “SALSAL Nation”, as Dr. Bell calls it, made the trip possible.
A team from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami provided volunteer support.
“For a diabetes patient, this special footwear can make the difference between developing an ulcer that could lead to amputation, and the ability to go on living their lives,” stated Dr. Bell.
While on a visit to the Bahamas several years ago during International Diabetes Week, he witnessed how difficult it is for diabetes patients to receive care. Since the devastation of Hurricane Dorian, access to care has been further limited.
With the support of his SALSAL Nation, Dr. Bell plans to continue this program. For more information visit theSALSAL.org. All donations go directly to patient assistance programs.
